Karen's here & Labor Day 2009

Sean's mom Karen finally made it to Atlanta last Tuesday. We were both very excited to see her and show her our new pad called home. We immediately put her to work in our front yard, just kidding, she loves taking care of yards and ours needed a little TLC. On Thursday we gave her the directions to Home Depot and Sean and I left to go to work. When I came home that day she had done grocery shopping for dinner and was in the process of edging my landscaping. Of course it looked fantastic, I guess this is what it would be like to have a pro come take care of our yard instead of clueless me!? Sean has a pretty good idea what he's doing with the lawn, but as far as flowers, shrubs and anything else your supposed to water, we're lost. Karen lived in Atlanta for 25 years, so she has an excellent knowledge of what flowers bloom when and what types dam rabbits won't eat...grrrrrrrrr.... I hate rabbits!!!
Anyways, we are more than grateful for her being here and helping us along this home owner thing. Thanks MOM!!!
Okay, on to our Hilton Head trip, and yes this is mine and Sean's second trip in 2 months. What? We like it there, plus in all the years that Karen lived only 4 hours away she never got to go. Also, you can ride your bike all over the island and that just happens to be Karen's favorite new activity. Bright and early friday morning we packed up the car and headed to HHI!
I would love to sit here and tell you story upon story about the crazy pink lipstick/Ed Hardy cover-up/4 inch flip flop/70 year old lady, or our morning bike stroll that turned into a 16 mile bike ride, or Karen trying to take up golf...in flip flops, or how we got three sweet t-shirts for free, or what Sean and I over heard the gay guys say to each other at the outdoor shower... ewww, or the girl that got proposed to on the beach... see there is to much to say. I will post tons of pictures then write little blurps below them. Enjoy!
Shelter Cove Marina for dinner the first night. Just a quick rinse after the beach...
Yes this is our sweet "Ice cube" that we take with us on every beach vacation, why so big you may ask? Well we fit everyones waters, sodas, snacks, fruit and anything else you want to keep cold... it works great!
Of course Sean made it to the top of this unexpected bridge we had to climb over...
Come on Mom you can do it... she peddled the entire way up that bridge... more than I can say for myself (and my knees).
We had to stop for a water break at this point so we took in the beautiful views...
These were the beautiful views of a more level ground towards the end of our tour across the island...
Go Cougs!!! Yep, Sean is "one of those guys". He wore his BYU shirt the day after they beat Oklahoma. WHA WHA!!!
Views from a couple stories up... Picture above: Adult pool.
Picture below: kid's pool and Buoy bar.
Then there was golfing... Karen and I invaded Sean during his last 5 holes, they gave us a golf cart and everything. Needless to say Karen had a blast learning to putt...
We went Kayaking in this canal that took you through golf courses and big beautiful homes on the golf courses.
We found a baby sting ray that had gotten it's mouth hooked closed. Sean tried to pull it out but the hook was to big, so we at least cut the line so the little guy wasn't attached to the bobber anymore... it was a sad scene. Stupid people, not paying attention to what they catch... One of the many amazing homes on the golf course/canal...
Simple little game of paddle ball turned into an all out tennis match on the beach... Notice how hard packed the sand was, yeah Ashley did a nice diving barrel roll onto that not-so-soft sand trying to catch a frisbee... ouch!
After the last day of beach, we rinsed off in the pool, you know because we were already checked out... Sean soaped up in the outdoor shower and we headed home.
